FAQ - Vegan Diet Start PDF Print E-mail
Written by The Webmiss

I get asked a lot where to start a vegetarian or vegan diet and how to make healthy changes.. start working out for example. I grew up vegetarian and got a lot of education regarding nutrition etc from my mum (she's a certified dietary consultant), read a ton of books and been heavily interested into scientific research/studies for the last 20 years and tried a lot of different approaches on myself.. but it's hard for me to remember how to actually START from scratch.

So I asked my very fit friend (killer abs, dude!) Dave from Heavy Metal Merchant

(yes, he runs the kick-ass Arch Enemy AU web store:http://www.heavymetalmerchant.com/products/archenemy

what he'd recommend.. He turned vegan a while ago. This is his reply:

"Looking at my bookshelf right now I would recommend:

All of BRENDAN BRAZIER’s books
Thrive
Thrive Fitness
Thrive Foods.

Brendan a former pro Iron Man triathlete one of the foremost authorities on plant based nutrition. these are some of the best really. Up to date and include info on nutrient density of foods, how they are assimilated into the body and also the eco impact of food production. Recipies the whole lot.

Brenda Davis & Vesanto melina ‘Becoming Vegan – The Complete Guide to adopting a Healthy Plant Based Diet’
http://www.amazon.com/Becoming-Vegan-Complete-Adopting-Plant-Based/dp/1570671036

Some of the newer recipie books are good for newbies and make it easy to add some more plant based meals, transition etc..

‘Fork Over Knives’ the plant based way to health

For the hardcore dudes..

Robert Cheeke – Vegan Bodybuilding & Fitness – the complete guide to building your body on a plant based diet.
This books got everything, sample meal plans, appendix with foods listed by nutrients, exercises etc.

And for the METAL connection there is ‘Meat Is For Pussies – John Joseph from the CRO-MAGS (A how-to guide for dudes who want to get fit, kick ass and take names)

Websites:
www.goveg.com
www.tryveg.com
www.thevegetariansite.com
www.supervegan.com

These are good with solid info, not big on the new agey vegan hippy world kind of stuff myself, that just turns me off..'

There you go.. check it out if you are interested :-)
